How to plan a kitchen remodel, step by step

A kitchen remodel goes smoothly when the decisions happen in the right order. Here is the sequence we follow with clients in the Monadnock Region, from first idea to the day you cook in the new kitchen.

1. Goals and must-haves

List what bothers you about the current kitchen and what you want most: more storage, an island, better light, room for two cooks. Save photos you love to your Ideabook and pull them into a mood board.

2. Budget

3. Layout

Decide whether the layout stays or changes. Moving plumbing, gas or walls adds cost but can transform how the kitchen works. Test ideas in the kitchen layout planner and check the work triangle.

4. Selections

5. Permits and ordering

6. Construction
