Combined mudroom-laundry or two rooms?
It depends on the floor plan and how the household moves. A combined room is efficient in a smaller house; a dedicated drop zone at the entry plus a separate laundry works better where the traffic and the machines want to be in different places. We lay out both.
What flooring holds up to New England mud and salt?
Porcelain tile or a rigid-core LVP — both shrug off slush, salt and dog nails and wipe clean. A floor drain is worth it if the space doubles as a dog wash or a gear-rinse area.
Can you add a dog wash?
Yes — a raised tiled basin with a handheld sprayer and a hair-catching drain, sized to your dog, usually tucked into the mudroom cabinetry run.
