Patterns explained
Brick (1/2 offset) is classic subway. 1/3 offset is recommended for long tiles to avoid lippage. Stacked and vertical stack feel modern. Herringbone is the showpiece, and it uses more tile and labor.

How much to order
The previewer adds waste by pattern: about 10% for straight layouts and 20% for herringbone. Always keep a spare box. For grout, use the grout calculator.
Common questions
How much extra tile should I order for herringbone?
About 15% to 20% extra, because herringbone creates more cuts.
What is the best pattern for 3x12 tile?
A 1/3 offset or stacked layout. Half offsets on long tile can show lippage from slight bowing.
How wide should grout lines be?
About 1/16" to 1/8" for wall tile and 1/8" to 3/16" for most floors.
