An outdoor kitchen that survives a Keene winter
The hard part of an outdoor kitchen in New England is not the grill — it is the stone that will not spall, the cabinetry that will not rot, and the gas, water and drain lines that have to survive a freeze. We build for the climate.
Done by the crew that measured it
Built-in grills & more
Built-in gas grills, side burners, pizza ovens, smokers and Perlick outdoor refrigeration — on a dedicated gas line, not a swapped tank.
Freeze-stable stone
Granite, porcelain or Dekton counters rated for freeze-thaw — not every stone survives it, and we will steer you off the ones that do not.
Weatherproof storage
Marine-grade polymer or stainless outdoor cabinetry with sealed doors and drawers — real storage that shrugs off rain and UV.
Gas, water, power & drain
A run gas line, a frost-safe water supply with a blow-out valve for winter, GFCI power and a drain that will not freeze solid.
Counters, islands & bars
A framed and clad island or an L-counter with a raised bar, on a proper frost-protected slab or footings.
Pergolas & roofs
A pergola, louvered roof or full roof structure so it is usable in more than three months of the year — tie it to the patio and fire feature.
Can I use an outdoor kitchen in winter?
The grilling, yes, if it is covered and the approach is cleared. The water side gets winterised — we install a blow-out valve so the supply line drains before the first freeze.
What stone works outdoors here?
Granite and porcelain are the safe choices. Dekton is excellent. Marble, quartzite and most engineered quartz are not rated for freeze-thaw and UV — quartz can discolour in sun.
What does an outdoor kitchen cost?
A basic built-in grill island with stone runs \$8,000–\$15,000; add refrigeration, a roof and multiple cook stations and it climbs from there.
Do I need a permit?
Usually yes for the gas line and often for the electrical and any roof structure. We pull them.
