Decks built for New England, not just for the photo

Frost-depth footings, a properly flashed ledger, and framing sized for snow load — the parts that fail first when a deck is built fast. Then the decking, railing and lighting you actually see.

What's involved

Done by the crew that measured it

Structure

Footings & framing

Sonotube footings below the 48-inch frost line, a flashed and lag-bolted ledger, and joists sized for a 50+ psf snow load.

Decking

Composite, cedar or PT

Capped composite (TimberTech, Trex) for no maintenance, western red cedar for the look, or pressure-treated on a budget — hidden fasteners on the composite.

Railing

Cable, aluminium or wood

Code-height railing with the infill you want — cable or glass for the view, aluminium for low upkeep, wood to match the house.

Rooms

Screened porches & roofs

Add a roof, screen panels or a three-season enclosure — framed as part of the structure, not bolted on later.

Details

Stairs, skirting & lighting

Code stairs with solid stringers, ventilated skirting, and low-voltage post and stair lighting wired in.

Permits

Pulled and inspected

We pull the building permit and schedule the footing and final inspections — it is a permitted structure in every town we serve.

What does a deck cost?

Pressure-treated runs roughly \$35–\$50 per sq ft installed; capped composite with an upgraded railing is \$60–\$100+. The deck calculator breaks down materials for your size.

Composite or wood?

Composite if you never want to stain again and plan to stay — the payback is about 8–10 years. Cedar if you love the material and will maintain it. We build plenty of both.

Do I need a permit?

Yes, in every Monadnock-region town for a deck attached to the house or over 30 inches high. We handle it.

Can you replace just the decking on my existing frame?

If the framing, ledger and footings pass inspection, yes — a re-deck and new railing over sound structure is a common, cost-effective project.
