Home / Kitchens / Wet Bars & Pantries

A second small kitchen, done properly

Wet bars, butler's pantries and coffee stations pull entertaining and the morning routine out of the main kitchen. Small footprint, lots of decisions — plumbing, refrigeration, glass storage and light.

What's involved

Done by the crew that measured it

Plumbing

Bar & prep sinks

A small bar sink with a gooseneck or pot-filler-style faucet, and a filtered water line for coffee and ice.

Cold

Beverage & wine refrigeration

Undercounter beverage centres, wine columns and clear-ice makers — Perlick and others, sized to the cabinet run.

Cabinetry

Glass storage & display

Stemware racks, glass-front uppers with LED, a bottle drawer and a coffee-station appliance garage.

Surface

Stone & backsplash

A stone top and a slab or tile backsplash — often the place to use a bold remnant or a dramatic tile.

Where

Kitchen, dining or basement

Between the kitchen and dining room as a true butlers pantry, or in a finished basement as an entertaining bar.

Light

Task & feature lighting

Puck lighting in the glass cabinets, under-cabinet task light, and a pendant or two if it seats people.

Do I need plumbing for a wet bar?

For a true wet bar, yes — a supply and drain line. A dry bar (refrigeration and storage, no sink) is simpler and fine for many spaces, especially a basement far from plumbing.

What does a wet bar cost?

A modest built-in bar with a sink, beverage fridge and stone runs \$6,000–\$15,000; a full butlers pantry with wine refrigeration and custom cabinetry goes well beyond that.

Butlers pantry vs walk-in pantry?

A butlers pantry is a working counter with cabinetry and often a sink, between kitchen and dining. A walk-in pantry is storage. Many kitchens want both — we plan it in closets & storage.

Can you add one to a finished basement?

Yes — a basement bar often uses a macerating pump for the sink so we do not have to break the slab.
