Standard bathroom vanity sizes and dimensions

Vanities come in a handful of standard sizes, which makes it easy to shop once you know your numbers. Here are the widths, heights and depths you will see, and the clearances that decide which one fits.

Standard widths

• 24" and 30": powder rooms and small hall baths.
• 36": the most common single-sink size, with room to set things down.
• 48": a generous single sink, or a tight double.
• 60": the smallest comfortable double vanity.
• 72" and wider: a full double with counter space between the sinks.

Sizes in between (42", 54", 66") exist from some brands but have fewer choices.

Height: standard or comfort height

Older vanities are about 30" to 32" tall. Most new vanities are comfort height, 34" to 36", like a kitchen counter, which is easier on backs. With a vessel sink, choose a lower cabinet (about 30") so the rim ends up near 36".

Depth

Standard depth is about 21" to 22". Narrow-depth vanities (about 18") help in tight baths where the door or toilet is close. Remember the top usually adds about 1" to the cabinet depth.

Clearances

Leave 21" clear in front (30" is more comfortable), keep the vanity edge at least 15" from the center of the toilet, and 4" from a side wall if there is a drawer that needs to open. The vanity size finder works this out for your wall.

Tops and plumbing

Many vanities come with a top and sink; others need a custom top, which is how you get an exact fit or a special stone. See custom vanity tops.
