These butcher block countertops are made in the USA by John Boos & Co. Red Oak is a pale, reddish brown, coarse-grained wood. It tends to be darker than Maple and lighter than Walnut. Edge-grain butcher blocks are constructed using wood strips that run the full length of the block, providing a clean and pleasing look. These particular counter tops are 1-1/2 inches thick, 38 inches wide, 97 inches long, and finished with Varnique - a varnish-like material that requires little maintenance, but that should not be directly cut upon.
