Where Marble comes from
Marble is metamorphosed limestone, heat and pressure recrystallise it into the soft, luminous stone that has finished the best rooms for centuries. The veining is calcite and mineral impurities; every slab is a one-off.
How it holds up, and what it asks of you
Marble is softer than granite or quartz and reactive to acids, lemon, wine, tomato and many cleaners will etch a dull mark into a polished surface. A honed finish hides etching and wear far better than polished. Sealing slows staining but does not stop etching. Many people come to love the patina; some don't. We'd rather you know before, not after.
