Size by towels
Plan about 4 bars per bath towel. A single-person bath is fine with 6 to 8 bars; a shared bath wants 10 or more. Width runs 20" to 32".
Plug-in or hardwired
Plug-in models are the easy retrofit if there is a GFCI outlet nearby. Hardwired models look cleaner and can run on a timer switch, but need an electrician.
Where to mount it
Within reach of the shower or tub, about 18" to 24" off the floor, and away from where water sprays directly. See heated towel bars.
Common questions
Do towel warmers use a lot of electricity?
No. Most use 50 to 150 watts, about the same as one or two light bulbs.
Can a towel warmer heat a bathroom?
It takes the chill off a small bath but is not a room heater.
