Kitchen sink & cabinet fit calculator
Your sink base cabinet width to the largest sink it can hold, for undermount, drop-in and farmhouse sinks.
The rule of thumb
An undermount sink should be about 3" narrower than the sink base cabinet, so a 36" base holds up to a 33" sink. Drop-in sinks can run a little bigger because the rim sits on the counter. Farmhouse (apron-front) sinks need a cabinet made for them.
Measure inside, too
Framed cabinets lose about 1.5" per side to the face frame, and the sink bowl has to clear the side panels. Check the inside width against the sink bowl dimensions, not just the outside width.
Workstation sinks
Workstation sinks with ledges for cutting boards and colanders are sized the same way. Bigger is not always better: a 30" to 33" single bowl handles sheet pans in most kitchens.
