Panel-ready appliances: how integrated kitchens work

Shop Design Build · updated 2026

A sleek kitchen with dark flat-panel cabinetry that hides the appliances

Panel-ready appliances wear the same door fronts as your cabinets, so the fridge and dishwasher disappear into the design. It is a big part of the calm, built-in look in many high-end kitchens.

What can be panel-ready

Refrigerators, freezer columns, dishwashers, refrigerator and freezer drawers, beverage centers and some range hoods can take custom panels. Ranges, cooktops and wall ovens stay exposed. Browse appliances, refrigerators and dishwashers.

Integrated vs fully integrated

With a fully integrated dishwasher the controls sit on the top edge of the door, so the front is completely clean. An integrated or front-control model shows a control strip. Column refrigerators built to sit flush look the most seamless.

Planning the panels

Each appliance has a spec sheet with panel sizes, weight limits and mounting details. We order the panels with your cabinets so the finish and grain match. Hardware should match the cabinets too; appliance pulls are sized for the heavier doors.

Things to know

  • Panel-ready models and the extra panels cost more than standard stainless.
  • Plan early: cabinet sizes depend on the exact appliance models.
  • Leave room for ventilation where the manufacturer requires it.
  • Add a subtle cue, like a different pull, so guests can find the fridge.

Is it worth it?

It shines in open-concept kitchens that face the living room, and in kitchens with a strong cabinet color. Sketch your layout in the kitchen cabinet designer or explore cabinetry.

Common questions

Can any refrigerator take a custom panel?

No. Only panel-ready models are designed to accept a cabinet panel. Check the model spec for panel size and weight limits.

Do panel-ready appliances cost more?

Usually yes, both the appliance and the matching panels. The payoff is a seamless, built-in look.

When do I choose panel-ready appliances?

At the start of the kitchen design, because cabinet sizes and panel orders depend on the exact appliance models.
