Where Quartz comes from
Quartz countertops are engineered from roughly 90% ground natural quartz bound with resins and pigments. That makes them consistent, non-porous and available in marble-look and concrete-look patterns that don't vary the way a natural slab does.
How it holds up, and what it asks of you
Quartz is very hard and essentially stain-proof — no sealing, ever, just soap and water. The one caution is heat: the resin binder can scorch or discolor under a pan straight off the burner, so a trivet is required, not optional. It's also less UV-stable than natural stone, so it's an indoor material.

Is quartz really maintenance-free?
Close to it. No sealing, no special cleaners — soap and water. The only rule is a trivet for hot cookware.
Can I put a hot pan on quartz?
Not directly. Sustained heat can scorch or crack the resin. Always use a trivet or hot pad.
Does quartz look fake?
The best marble-look quartz is very convincing, especially with full-height backsplashes and mitered edges. Seeing a full slab in the showroom settles it fast.
