What size fan for my room?
Match the blade span to the room: 44 inches for up to ~10x10, 52 inches for a typical bedroom, 56 to 72 inches for a great room. Run the ceiling fan calculator for the exact span.
How low should it hang?
Blades about 8 to 9 feet off the floor and at least 18 inches from any wall or sloped ceiling. On a high or vaulted ceiling that means a longer downrod, not a flush mount.
Are DC-motor fans worth it?
Yes — quieter on every speed, use about 70% less power, and usually include a remote and a reverse for winter. The premium pays back over the life of the fan.
